IAR Embedded Workbench for Atmel AVR is a commercial integrated development environment and C/C++ compiler toolchain from IAR Systems for building, debugging, and optimizing firmware on Atmel/Microchip AVR microcontrollers (including tinyAVR, megaAVR, and XMEGA families). It combines a project manager and code editor with a highly optimizing compiler, assembler, linker, librarian, and the C-SPY debugger, which supports both instruction-accurate simulation and on-chip debugging via common AVR probes. The package includes device-specific header files, startup code, runtime libraries, and example projects to accelerate development, with strong code-size and performance optimizations to fit tight memory and timing constraints. Typical uses span consumer electronics, industrial control, and IoT devices. Version 5.4_4 is an earlier Windows release; installations are commonly found under C:\Program Files\IAR Systems\Embedded Workbench 5.4_4.
